The College of Communication Engineering(CCE) first established its disciplines and majors in 1957. Its long-standing dedication to education has enabled it to exhibit unique characteristics and regional advantages in talent cultivation and scientific research, in fields relevant to information, communication, and control, such as information and communication engineering, control science and engineering, instrument science and technology, and electrical engineering.

After years of development, the College has formed its own advantages and characteristics in disciplines such as signal extraction and real-time processing, video communication and digital processing, weak signal detection and estimation, theory and practice of wireless communication, optical communication technology, broadband communication technology, multimedia information processing, complex system modeling, optimization and control, distributed intelligent systems and network control, system simulation and advanced control, intelligent machines and robotic control, machine vision and visual servo, and enterprise informatization and integrated automation of production processes. The College attaches great importance to basic research and applied basic research, and also to the transformation and engineering application of research outcomes. In recent years, it has undertaken 85 research projects at national and provincial levels, such as the Key Technologies R&D Program, National High-Tech R & D Program (863 Program), National Natural Science Foundation Project, and Science and Technology Development Plan Project of Jilin Province with research funding amounting to over 50 million yuan. The College has won 19 provincial scientific and technological achievement awards, published nearly 1,400 academic papers in journals and conferences at home and abroad including 54 SCI papers, 306 EI papers, 253 ISTP papers, and 33 monographs and textbooks and obtained 26 patents.

The College has also made a series of research results which are domestically leading and internationally advanced, in fields such as harmonic signal parameter estimation, multi-rate CDMA joint space-time coding and downlink beamforming in resource allocation, video stream coding, query and retrieval in multimedia databases, multi-dimensional digital signal processing, multi-source information processing and transmission, low-rate voice coding, channel equalization, speech signal processing and recognition, theory and technology of broadband communication and communication network, compression and coding of digital images, weak signal detection and estimation, chaos detection of weak signals amid strong background noise, controllable seismic source and seismic signal processing, theory and methods of multi-sensor information fusion and active machine vision information processing, optimizated and network control of constraint systems, large-scale multi-robot systems, coordinated control and intelligent navigation of multiple mobile robots (structure, task planning, motion planning), intelligent robots, flexible robots, dynamic analysis and control of space robots and lunar rovers, optical communication network technology, photonic device technology, photon transmission and optical fiber sensing systems, new optical fiber amplification technology and all-optical OADM. In particular, it has invented the world’s first wireless positioning electronic whiteboard technology and products based on the DSP embedded system, which won the Excellent Product Award at the 6th China Hi-Tech Fair in 2004 and the Innovation Award at Shanghai International Industry Fair in the same year. For the last ten consecutive years, the College has been undertaking reliability screening of some electronic components for Shenzhou I to VI spacecrafts. In particular, its work on the Shenzhou V manned spacecraft has been commended by China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation.
